The Arusha Center
Community Natural Foods supports the Arusha Center through their Calgary Dollars Program. We sell our gift certificates at the monthly Calgary Dollars Potluck only. These gift certificates can be then used at our stores.

The Arusha Centre is a transparent, non-profit, charitable organization committed to moving social justice forward through non-violence by providing infrastructure support to individuals, member groups, and social justice movements.
Calgary Dollars helps people to help themselves. By printing local currency (called Calgary Dollars) and publishing a free bulletin which connects individuals and businesses who accept Calgary Dollars for their goods and services, we are stimulating our local economy. Local currency and bartering empower us all by increasing our purchasing power, improving our quality of life, and helping us to strengthen our communities. One Calgary Dollar is equivalent to $1 Canadian. Calgary Dollars is generously supported by the United Way of Calgary and Area and FCSS.

The Mustard Seed

For nearly 25 years, The Mustard Seed has worked to foster meaningful, lifelong change in the lives of Calgary’s homeless. Together with organizations such as Community Natural Foods they care for the most essential and urgent needs of the less fortunate with food, clothing and shelter. The Mustard Seed also provides the tools, training and community needed to help the homeless rebuild broken lives and, ultimately, realize the dream of a better future.
We presented a cheque to The Mustard Seed for $9,722.72 on October 31, 2008. Bruce Martin, CNF General Manager, presented the cheque at The Mustard Seed. The proceeds are from donations made at Community’s stores by patrons to support The Mustard Seed’s Scan Away Homelessness Program. Through this program, Donors contribute to the cost of a meal.
In addition, Community has contributed over $100,000.00 in groceries to The Mustard Seed in 2008. Community has been contributing since 2000 for a total in kind contribution of $309,000.00 to date. Rasta
Community Natural Foods supports Rasta by donating food from our produce departments.

Rasta is a non-profit registered charity devoted to animal rescue and public education. RASTA is located just 10 minutes south of Calgary where we offer sanctuary to stray, abandoned and abused animals.
RASTA is not funded in any way by the government or municipality of foothills in which it serves. RASTA is unique in that the gates to this sanctuary are open to all animals regardless of breed, size, age or species.
RASTA is a No-Kill and Cage-less Sanctuary. Our No-Kill policy mandates that only terminally ill or fatally injured animals will ever undergo euthanasia.
RASTA believes in giving animals a second chance by rescuing, rehabilitating, socializing, training and eventually adopting them to responsible, loving and permanent homes, or alternatively, providing a life-long safe haven at the RASTA Sanctuary.

Alberta Wilderness Association

Alberta Wilderness Association (AWA) played host to the 18th Annual Climb & Run for Wilderness, which saw almost 1200 participants climbing the 802 stairs to the top of the tower, raising $110,000 that will go directly to the organization's efforts to conserve and protect our province's wild lands, wild waters, and wildlife. Community Natural Foods was a first time sponsor of the 2009 event. This event grows annually in its recognition throughout the province and the country as the Best Earth Day Event in the West! AWA is the oldest wilderness conservation group in Alberta dedicated to the completion of a protected areas network and the conservation of wilderness and wildlife throughout the province. Founded in 1965 in rural southwest Alberta by backcountry enthusiasts, ranchers and outfitters, the AWA has grown into a province wide organization. AWA has more than four decades of success and is known for its tenacity, corporate memory and integrity. AWA is a non-profit, federally registered, charitable society.

University School

At the end of the 2008/2009 school year University School held a Health Fest to help educate their students on the importance of a healthy lifestyle. They had a nutrition booth that provided a healthy and litterless snack for the participants. We were glad to be a part of their successful event.
