Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay

An in vitro binding experiment wherein an enzyme and its substrate are used as the indicator system, as opposed to a radioactive agent. In this assay, the enzyme is connected to a recognizable immunoglobulin or antigen and, in positive test results, stays as part of the antigen-antibody complex readily available to react with the substrate.
